The world got a new country: The Free Republic of Liberland, founded on April 13th, 2015 by Economist Vit Jedlicka, that runs on cryptocurrency donations and will launch its own token in the coming months. Half a million people have applied for citizenship to the “nation” – which sits on a sandbank stretching 7km next to the Danube River (between Croatia and Serbia), 10km south of the Hungarian border.
Liberland has its own flag, national anthem, and a Government, but with no compulsory taxes, no arms control and they are using the virtual currency “Bitcoin” as their Currency, Although it’s still not clear whether it’s a Real country or it might become one.
“The situation in Liberland is still difficult as Croatian police illegally persecute all visitors and settlers,” Jedlicka told the Telegraph in an interview. “We are waiting for exoneration from the Croatian constitutional court but for now, our settlement has essentially moved to the river, where we host visitors almost on a daily basis.”
The country acknowledges Bitcoin, Bitcoin money, and Ethereum donations to run its financial activities. Putting yourself helpless before a possibly unpredictable resource may seem like a strange thought, yet Jedlicka does not let this stage him: “For a couple of years of my life I functioned as a monetary financial markets analyst,” he says. “That gave me a genuinely decent comprehension of the framework we are living in.”
Liberland’s proverb is “live and let live,” yet at this moment it isn’t so much that basic for Jedlicka, who jokes that his present home is “on a plane.” Jedlicka is always venturing to every part of the globe advancing his wander and meeting with agents and additionally, different gatherings keen on making comparative libertarian libertarian-minded living spaces in Africa and Central America.
