On the 7th of January, International Information Service-Dentsu (ISID), which is a subsidiary of the Dentsu Group, announced the smart agricultural data distribution platform “SMAGt” (smart agriculture traceability). It envisions the production history and transaction information of the agricultural products.

They make use of the blockchain technology to record the production history, shipping, distribution, along with the sales of agricultural products. They also help in the branding of local agricultural products and prevent food fraud.

SMAGt is primarily a block which adds production management data, for example, predicting the usage status of agricultural chemicals and compost, the time for harvest and the amount produced, etc. All this can quickly be accumulated with the advancement of smart agricultural technology.

The shipping, distribution, and sales data also offer great help in it. It can visualise on a platform which provides high tamper resistance. With the help of this, the farmers will be able to provide consumers with information to prove their safety and brand.

Apart from this, the consumers can also access “SMAGt” by reading the QR code attached to the agricultural products. Additionally, with the producer’s information known, it is possible to fir the consumer to check in detail how the crops produced and what type of pesticides used for the protection of these crops.

Apart from this, ISID has been working with Aya Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, since the year 2016. Its main aim is to build a system which can use blockchain to record and envisage the history of production as well as the distribution of organic agricultural products along with its consumption behaviour.

These findings are the technology basis of SMAGt. Currently, they are conducting demonstration experiments in cooperation with various local governments and companies for commercialisation.

Recent reports have also shown a reduction of 3% of the total headcount of the international business, as well as property rationalisation and other related impacts. However, Dentsu stated that its Japan business has been in line with what they were expecting of it to be.
