Eclipse is a well-known global community that is IBM backed and home for over 350+ open source projects, which include runtimes, tools, and frameworks. The most popular open-source projects used worldwide are Eclipse IDE (Integrated development environment) and Jakarta EE (Enterprise Edition). The Eclipse foundation focuses on key services like Intellectual property management, Ecosystem development, IT infrastructure, and development process.
On Tuesday, February 12, 2020, Eclipse Foundation and IOTA Foundation announced that they are Jointly launching a Working group named Tangle EE (Enterprise Edition) to speed up the adoption of IOTA on commercial grounds. The IOTA protocol is a distributed Ledger Technology developed by the IOTA foundation.
Both IOTA Foundation and Eclipse Foundation are so different from one another. Still, leading ones in the industry of their respective fields and their Tangle EE working group itself is a collective of leading companies, academics, and standards bodies in developing data, tooling, payment, and identity solution.
Tangle EE working Group
Tangle EE working Group is founded by some big names of tech world like DELL Technologies and STMicroelectronics along with 13 members: Software AG, Object Management Group, Accessec, Energinet, Biilabs, Calypso Network Association, ENGIE lab GRIGEN, RWTH Aachen University, AKITA, Geometric Energy Corporation, TMForum, IoTIFY, and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.
IOTA foundation aims at developing an open infrastructure that forms the backbone of the digital economy. The infrastructure which is compatible with both Humans and machines.
Tangle EE is an effort from the IOTA foundation to make their technology future proof and make it something which can be commercialized and build a high-level decentralized identity protocol. Its other purpose of existence is to drive open-source collaboration, and within this working group, Strategic, participant, and guest members will collaborate on a project.
Unified Identity
To build an interoperable trust layer that enables identity for people, organization and things by developing a high-level protocol to encourage adoption of decentralized identity in IOTA and minimize the entry-level barrier for the new organization to participate
Decentralized Marketplaces
An environment where the organization can easily deploy and participate in an industry-agnostic decentralized marketplace. To achieve that, IOTA aims at developing an extendable toolkit to enable real-time trading of data, trading of data, products, and services.
