Ryan Bethem tweeted today that “Voice” as per its design looks more like a gambling dapp than a content-oriented dapp. It looks like a game of chicken that might not produce any good content he added followed by mention of a tweet by Brendan Blumer, CEO, and co-founder of block.one.
In his tweet, Brendan mentions that in the forthcoming future, the app, Voice would have the ownership of the top comments/ad spot. This would make it similar to any platform that takes money to promote the content.
This practice would make the app irrelevant as a platform to promote good content. A person who has the resources to buy the top spot irrespective of their content quality would do so.
However, a person who has some really good ideas but lacks the resources might never get noticed by the community. Brendan compared the app with an ad-based website where people have the ability to buy ad-spots to promote their products.
The actual tweet by Brendan reads “In the future, the top Voice will also own the top comment/ad spot. It’s basically the same as an ad platform where users bid for placement which brings free-market pricing to the process but also allows for collective identification of interesting content. Will continue to iterate.”
Ryan Bethem further added that Voice is an interesting idea. However, it has an incentive that doesn’t fit with the theme of promoting good content. He wonders are the factors that decide whether somebody’s content gets the top spot or not.
Is it like whichever content has the highest demand for a particular category gets the top spot. A user mentioned that Voice allows users to access a timeline that shows content from the people they follow along with the top-rated content.
Sebastian van der Lans, Founder of WordProofio jokingly asked if a user could rent or sell their first spot to someone else.
