- Bitmain is the leader of the cryptocurrency mining ASIC industry.
- The Antminer E3 has stopped mining the Ethereum classic, and there is only about a month left before it stops mining Ethereum as well.
- The problem started on the 21st of February when users started reporting a bad performance of Antminer E3 on the Ethereum Classic (ETC) pool.
There was a huge drop in the hash rate of Ethereum classic, and users had complained a lot of times. It turns out the Antminer E3 has stopped Ethereum classic mining. The Antminer E3 has stopped mining the Ethereum classic, and there is only about a month left before it stops mining Ethereum as well.
The Antminer E3’s first batch was released in the summer of the year 2018, and the reported hash rate per device at that time was 200 MH/s with a low retail price of just $800.
Though the low price did not stay for long as the price for the next batch of the devices was increased by a full one thousand USD, so the actual price had become 1800 USD. That did not matter much as the Antminer E3 was having better profitability than the average profitability of the mining rig based on GPUs.
The problem started on the 21st of February when users started reporting a bad performance of Antminer E3 on the Ethereum Classic (ETC) pool. Many users complained that the miner was only mining at 30 MH/s for quite some time.
The default factory hash rate of the Antminer E3 is 180 MH/s, but it was usually able to mine at a hash rate of 200 MH. When the investigation was started, it became clear that the Ethereum Classic (ETC) hash rate had gone down on all the pools around the world, even though Ethereum pools were working fine.
Now the Antminer E4 is going to stop mining the Ethereum classic completely, and it might even stop mining Ethereum soon.
