A US Citizen named Zubia Shahnaz from Long Island in the States has faced legal charges of funding the terrorist outfit ISIS using Cryptocurrency and has brought 13 years imprisonment upon her.
The funding was carried out using Bitcoin and other crypto coins; she has allegedly funded more than $150,000 in crypto coins said the US Department of Justice and Zubia was convicted of trying to move to Syria to support the terrorist campaign personally.
In raising funds, Zubia had deceptively acquired liquid assets from the large banks such as American Express, Chase, and Discover, but she was caught in 2017 when allegedly trying to move to Syria with prior plans.
However, after extensive law procedures, Zubia pleaded guilty in November in 2018, previously Zubia had volunteered in the participation in the work of the Syrian-American Medical Society in the year 2016, where she helped in healing the sick and wounded patients. The original court decision was made on five counts, which ended up in 110 years of imprisonment sentence.
The illicit activities surrounding the use of Cryptocurrency have always been here since its inception but mostly prevailing in the dark web where most of the illegal activities are carried out, including drug sale, human trafficking, funding of terror outfits, hitman services and much.
Theses activities are untraceable to the core and form the big network in the dark web. All the financing for these is done using cryptocurrencies, and the most famous one is Bitcoin, given the privacy and complete decentralization of the coin it can be used as an individual wish.
However, many of the people have started using this coin, and there is no stopping it. Given the yields, it can return. Still, the unlawful activities done using Bitcoin should also be under consideration.
