  • VeChain will start the first blockchain-powered E-NewHealthLife service.
  • This service is a blockchain-powered medical data management platform for emergency room patients.
  • According to VeChain, blockchain technology can save $100-$150 billion for the healthcare sector as there will be less need for IT, support functions, and staff for recording data.

Blockchain technology will now also used in the health care sector. VeChain will start the first blockchain-powered E-NewHealthLife service. This service is a blockchain-powered medical data management platform for emergency room patients. The company developed the digital healthcare service application with the I-Dante firm. Emergency Department of the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus uses this service. This is the largest healthcare services in the country.

Vechain’s blockchain application utilizes Digital Healthcare Passport which is an encrypted NFC card. Patients and healthcare facilities both can use the application. The Digital Healthcare Passport can identify a patient when the patient checks in at the emergency room registration desk. The card also assists in organizing their check-up records. It also tracks the queue for a patient and shares health-related data to the hospital. On the other hand, healthcare service providers can record and collect information about their patients in the app.

Role of Blockchain in This App

The blockchain technology will help to remove the need for a middleman to access databases of patients on the big population scale. Hence, the hospitals that will use the technology will no longer need to rely on health information exchanges or on other sources of aggregated data. Furthermore, the application meets the terms of the General Data Protection Regulation. Hence, a user will have total control over sharing information of their medical records and their profile.

According to VeChain, blockchain technology can save $100-$150 billion for the healthcare sector as there will be less need for IT, support functions, and staff for recording data. The technology will also help the healthcare sector to reduce security lapses. VeChain is optimistic that the needed development for these mentioned benefits will be completed in the next five years. We think that other countries also the E-NewHealthLife should be used to manage health-related data of COVID-19 patients.
