According to the 26-year-old Democrat supporter Jonathan Herzog, “Our future is decentralized and open-source”. For the primary election, the Democrat and cryptocurrency supporter Jonathan is a candidate for election to the U.S House of Representatives. He is running against Democrat Jerry Nadler. Since 2013, Nadler has represented the 10th congressional District of New York and has held the democratic nomination seat for 28 years. 

Andrew Yang’s influence

Jonathan Herzog is the staff member of Andrew Yang who was the former presidential candidate. Herzog’s inclination towards politics was first expressed in 2019. He wants to bring Universal Basic Income (UBI) setting the need for cryptocurrency assets as a campaign subject. He is thus seen as someone who will shadow pro-crypto Democrat candidate Yang. 

What could it mean to the Cryptocurrency industry? 

Jonathan Herzog tweeted about the future that looks decentralized, with hashtags of  Ethereum and Bitcoin, On the 3rd of June. Earlier to this, he also tweeted that it was high time an official representative knew about cryptocurrency and the virtual monetary industry. Herzog made a sharp comment and accused Congressman Nadler of being in a stupor. The young Democrat candidate received reaction and response from the Crypto community. Although, there were many who didn’t pay any heed to his attempts at UBI and cryptocurrencies. Some believe that he has no chance of winning because he is already trailing behind in the election. The media too has been blunt about this.

Winning chances

The scheme of a monetary unit stands in contradiction to the Government’s plans and policies since there is no involvement of any central authorities. But since, the CFTC ( U.S Commodity and Futures Trading Commission) chairman has recently released a statement urging the government to embrace digital currencies, this could act in the benefit of Jonathan Herzog’s campaign. Supporters and some cryptocurrency community members are still hopeful of Herzog’s chances. The elections are to take place on June 23, 2020. Further information stands awaited.
