USA Government Seize Millions in Fraud Crypto Donation Raised by Terror Groups

Terrorists too, seem to have adapted to digital ways to conduct criminal operations in the cyber space. In what came as a shock to the crypto world, Federal authorities have seized cryptocurrency worth millions of dollars today as part of an operation that exposed online campaigns to raise illegal funds by three foreign terrorist groups.

As per a report by USA Today, the Justice Department from Washington has informed that militant groups like Al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, the Al-Qassam Brigades and the Hamas’ military wing were seeking donations in the form of cryptocurrency on digital platforms from people all over the world.

As per officials from the Trump administration, the groups created multiple fake accounts and resorted to scams to raise donations for their militant activities, including selling protective gear for the Covid-19.

American officials have seized millions of dollars from 300 plus crypto accounts, four websites and four Facebook pages. Assistant Attorney General for National Security, John C Demers confirmed that the funds were used to buy ammunitions and expansion of their activities.

Enemies’ resorting to cyber-savvy tactics and technology on online portals to further their agenda of violence shouldn’t come as a surprise today’s age, stated Attorney General William Barr.
