  • A drawing by the Hollywood actor was auctioned on Cryptograph- a blockchain-based platform to raise Ethereum for charity.
  • The highest bid last recorded was a whopping 20 Ethereum, approximately worth $8,310.
  • Cryptograph also showcases digital works of art by Paris Hilton, David Arquette, Seth Green, Ryan Phillippe, Erika Christensen, and Skeet Ulrich.

It seems like the latest passion of Hollywood stars now happens to be digitalising their personal artworks for charity-a trend popularised by Cryptograph, a unique blockchain technology that converts drawings into digital artworks.

Take heart-throb actor and venture capitalist Ashton Kutcher for example, whose first attempt at digital art, a minimalist piece titled “The Eye of the Beholder”, is currently auctioning at Cryptograph. At press time, the highest bid was worth a whopping 20 Ethereum, approximately worth $8,310 with a day to go before the auction closes. A portion of the sale will be donated to Global Wildlife Conservation and Oxygen Seven.

Recently, Paris Hilton also auctioned a picture of her cat as a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) on the Ethereum-based platform for 40 ETH.

Why did Ashton Kutcher burn his own drawing?

It all began when Ashton Kutcher recently shared a video of himself setting ablaze a piece of paper containing a personally created drawing-apparently a collection of cartoon eyeballs and a star. The purpose was to demonstrate that this ‘artwork’ will be immortalised forever, thanks to Cryptograph, the blockchain art marketplace. Following the destruction, the Hollywood heart-throb’s art piece was digitized with a low-resolution phone-camera shot.

Kutcher’s video promoting the potential of the blockchain-based art market highlights a cutting-edge concept in which the physical version of the original art is destroyed, only to assure that the digital version exists forever.

Ethereum blockchain for Cryptograph

Every artist, regardless of their stature, dreams of their creations never being copied, morphed, stolen or damaged. Founded in 2018, Cryptograph is an Ethereum based blockchain technology platform that converts drawings into unique digital artworks. Thanks to its unique offering, Cryptograph has become an instant favourite with celebrities who wish to auction personal digital artworks as unique non-fungible tokens (NFTs) stored on the ETH network. Some of the proceeds are then distributed to various charity organizations.

Blockchain for digital art

Cryptograph has also highlighted the historical impact of Kutcher’s digital artwork and the idea behind its creation.  This goes on to showcase that with physical creation transcending into the digital domain, absolute authenticity and immortality are automatically taken care of.

There have been reports of growing sales of NFTs artwork on marketplaces like Opensea, Nifty Gateway, and Marketplace. Nifty Gateway recently broke records, selling a digital piece by the artist Trevor Jones for $55,555.

Thanks to blockchain technology now revolutionising crypto art, it would be interesting to see how the physical and digital realms can be combined for the benefit of humanity in days ahead.
