Today, Blockstream announced the launch of the Aqua Wallet, which is an IOS mobile wallet, designed for mass adoption of digital assets. It is the second project under Blockstream Umbrella, after 2016 when the company acquired it’s GreenAddress.
About the Wallet
The wallet will support Bitcoin (BTC) or any liquid asset. It is a non-custodial, single wallet for everyone who wants to get started with BTC and Liquid Bitcoin. It gives access to all Bitcoin, Liquid Bitcoin, Tether USDT, L-CAD, and all other liquid assets. Users can buy BTC from within the app using debit card or Apple pay, as they partner with Wyre. They will also work with third parties in the coming months to add more slots to buy BTC and shift liquid funds.
Blockstream’s Chief Strategy Officer Samson Mow, at the launch of the AQUA Wallet said that it is designed anyone who wishes to quickly get started with BTC and Liquid BTC assets. And highlighted that from scrolling the home screen it gives us access to all of our Digital Assets on the liquid network.
The Wallet sends and receives assets smoothly without any complicated features. The release stated that the users can skip the recovery phrase backup step during the creation process and can easily opt to write down their 12-word recovery phrase later.
Lawrence Nahum, Chief Architect, Blockstream was of the view that the wallet is built upon the years of fantastic work from their Green team and he also mentioned about the Green Development Kit (GDK) which provided them with a secure and reliable foundation for the development of AQUA Wallet.
Open Source Project
Availing it to all Liquid Federation members who oversee and maintain the Liquid Network, so they can use the AQUA codebase for faster deployments, As Blockstream Green.
AQUA Wallet, which is an open source project is also various IoS stores and Android users too will be able to enjoy the benefits of it soon. They also provided an help center for the users to guide on how to acquire Liquid Assets like Liquid Bitcoin and Liquid-Based Tether.
The company said about the Blockstream Green that they will continue developing it parallel to AQUA. Blockstream Green is for the users who want more control and privacy features, and will support all major OS’s, where AQUA is for new users and will only support mobile Operating Systems.
