- China’s Dalian Medical University is all set to launch its first blockchain-powered hospital
- Xia Yunlong, president of the hospital, has been engaged actively to integrate blockchain and artificial intelligence and other future technologies
- Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said blockchain infrastructure isn’t as secure as it is being projected by the hospital and data security issues still prevail
One blockchain was used only for the cryptocurrency services, but those days are bygone now. It is not limited to finance but from FinTech to Governmental Institutes to the Educational sector use of blockchain is far more penetrated. Blockchain is decentralized, makes it near impossible penetration and change of data, traceability, and complete retention have made it grow in sectors far outside the finance and banking spectrum.
Blockchain-Powered Hospital
One such innovation is from China’s Dalian Medical University, who is all set to launch its first blockchain-powered hospital. As per the local news, currently, the blockchain’s integration is under process and is expected to complete by the year-end. Thus, making the hospital ready for the trial run by January 2021.
The road ahead for the Blockchain-based services’ successful opening doesn’t seem easy for the Dalian Hospital as the government has shown significant security concerns for the hospital. Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said blockchain infrastructure isn’t as secure as it is being projected by the hospital and data security issues still prevail.
Services by Blockchain Hospital
Director Niu, when quizzed about what extra the blockchain integration will provide, to which he commented any patient who will be accessing the hospital’s services through WeChat, their data will be stored in the blockchain ledger. Thus, making the blockchain integration entirely a back-end process has raised various questions for its implementation. The Information Department of the country is concerned about the effect that blockchain integration will bring to the hospital as users can’t feel any difference. On this director, Niu said the blockchain would bring the patient’s critical data verifiability, providing data security and complete transmission and access.
Xia Yunlong, president of the hospital, has been engaged actively to integrate blockchain and artificial intelligence and other future technologies. He believes this will lay a strong foundation for futuristic hospital development.
Future of the Blockchain
2020 has seen various blockchain innovations, few of them being developed for a long time and some from the pandemic’s push. Decentralization of IoT and integrating it with blockchain, interoperability of the blockchain ( cross-sharing of data over blockchain systems), and integrating blockchain in social media are upcoming blockchain innovations. The blockchain-based hospital is just one of the many blockchain solutions that are yet to be adopted. Their impact being fruitful or disastrous, will be another prospect to notice in the future.
