  • The decision of the CEO was not liked by the employees of the firm

With the privacy issues being faced by the users of WhatsApp, the new messaging application, Signal, provides well-defined privacy options and is very much popular among the customers. The CEO of Signal is planning to include crypto payment service features in the application.

The Signal firm is very efficiently designing and implementing new features in collaboration with a privacy-focused cryptocurrency company called MobileCoin. Moxie Marlinspike, the CEO of Signal is the project advisor of this venture. From the reports gathered from sources, the above mentioned crypto, MobileCoin is a lot similar to the former Libra project of Diem which was backed by Facebook. The venture is going to make transactions easier in the developing countries. The applications provides users to select a unique username and this handles the current contact number using concerns, for accounts.

Signal’s installation of crypto payments

The employees of the Signal firm are not very happy with the incorporation of crypto in the application. As per them, the addition of payment services would only attract internet exploiters into the application, thereby hampering its safety. It is however very much obvious, once users start making payments via Signal, hackers would start entering the platform, just like the other platforms and create tension among the users. With the new privacy concerns with WhatsApp, the popularity of Signal has increased and the inclusion of such features would just interact negatively and reduce its credibility.

Views from the experts

Brian Acton, the co-founder of WhatsApp has set foot in the involvement in developing apps that will provide payment services. He has started writing codes and interviewing several engineers for the said purpose. A former Signal User researcher, Gregg Bernstein, in an interview mentioned that while Signal has gained popularity worldwide, the company has to take very calculated steps with their future ventures and offers. A rapid growth has been seen in Signal with the number of users increasing from 20 million to 40 million by the end of December. It was marked by the privacy tout in the Facebook owned app, WhatsApp, that has boosted the popularity of Signal, worldwide.
