  • The Berlin upgrade may carry out four Ethereum Improvement protocols, also called EIPs

A Milestone of Ethereum Community- Berlin

Berlin upgrade is soon launching on the Ethereum blockchain. After months of planning, the upgrade will begin on April 14, one of the important milestones for the Ethereum community.

After months of planning, finally, the Berlin upgrade will be launched on April 14 on Ethereum mainnet at block 12,244,000. Tim Beiko told that Ropsten would be the premier testnet to upgrade and go live on March 10. He further shared that Goerli and Rinkeby networks are expected to upgrade in one-week time duration on March 17 and March 24, respectively.

Ethereum operators were advised that for the three testnets, an upgrade of the Berlin compatible version should happen as early as possible. It should be noted that it is upgraded before April 7 for the mainnet.

Talking about the update schedule, Beiko further explained that before the fork block, Ethereum operators should upgrade their nodes on the networks they want to participate in. It is advised to upgrade before the due date.

What is the need of Ethereum Improvement Protocols (EIPs)?

For the network’s compatibility, there is nothing to be done by the Ether (ETH) token holders, exchanges, and wallet service providers to accommodate the upgrade. Berlin will use four Ethereum Improvement Protocols (EIPs). EIP-2565 lowers the ModEXP precompile cost, EIP-2929 increases some gas costs, EIP-2718 brings a new transaction type, and EIP-2930 has a transaction type with optional access lists.

All four EIPs have different and important functions to do. They are equally important for trading activities, and the upgrade will help exceed more business. Before Berlin, Istanbul and Muir, Glacier upgrades happened in December 2019 and January 2020. The present upgrade is named after Devcon 0. The next upgrade will be named London, where Devcon 1 happened.

Ethereum is running high on the success of Ethereum 2.0 that rolled in December 2020. As the ETH2.0 is in its transition phase from the proof-of-work to the proof-of-stake model, it is also likely to start a multilayer upgrade of the blockchain network. The price of ETH has surged to 65% in the Monday trading session to touch $1,767. The total market capitalization of Ethereum is $201 billion.
