One of the world’s largest bitcoin mining hardware makers, Bitmain released a teaser of Antminer E9, their upcoming Ethereum mining rig, which has been built around a new application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) chip. The new Ethereum-dedicated digital currency mining device, delivering a hash rate of up to 3 GH/s, aims to be one of the fastest ether miners on the open market.
E9’s Performance: the Most Powerful Ether Miner
Bitmain’s strategic teaser claims, when mining Ether, the Antminer E9 dishes a hash rate equivalent to that of 32 GeForce RTX 3080; one such graphics card provides around 95 MH/s hash rate. And according to the online publication about hardware and technology, HotHardware, by calculation, the performance of the Antminer E9 equates to that of 25 GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards. A single GeForce RTX 3090 card provides a hash rate of around 120 MH/s.
Antminer E9 is Best in Every Way
As per the tech-focused publication TechRadar, users rate the Linzhi “Phoenix” ASIC miner, offering a 2.6 GH/s hash rate, as the current fastest Ethereum miner. However, if the China-based mining firm successfully delivers the figures it promises in the teaser, it’ll definitely replace Phoenix at the very top. Moreover, the Bitmain Antminer E9 draws up to 2556 watts with a power efficiency of 0.85 J/M, which is nearly 15% more efficient than the Phoenix, which intakes about 3000 watts.
Speculated Prices: Relatively High, But Still Reasonable
The device is not for sale yet, and Bitmain hasn’t announced E9 prices, but going by the speculation, it’ll cost quite a penny. The cost of Phoenix is $11,300 and $13,700, whereas the Antminer E9’s estimated price lies around $25,000 and $30,000 per unit.
Commenting on the assumed cost, HotHardware, with their rough calculations, suggests, in light of the current graphics card prices, especially that of the crypto-favorite GeForce RTX 3080, even this rumored price figure will be an “absolute bargain.”
