Today’s the day people. For the uninitiated, it’s the 11th anniversary of Bitcoin Pizza and because of this, there’s a collective of “incredible strangers on the internet” that are set to treat folks to one million slices of pizza and it’s all for free.
Slice and PizzaDao collab
It may well seem that it’s a tradition now as several companies are commemorating it this 2021. Slice – the online food ordering platform has partnered with PizzaDAO as the former will be giving away more than 2,500 pizzas across the U.S. Papa John’s, on the other hand, got a different way to celebrate the occasion – £10 of free Bitcoin (BTC) whenever someone places an order of at least £20, Crypto Briefing noted.
Other firms are celebrating it too
Crypto firms have also jumped into the party as companies like Beldex, BZ Africa, and Paxful have announced on their website and social media that they too will be rewarding their users with crypto by simply describing their ideal pizza. Others like CoinTiger, Sesterce, Huobi, and OceanEX will also do the same provided that their faithfuls would share/retweet their announcements.
While a lot of them are into giveaways, there are those who opted to give to charities. One of them is the recently launched Bitcoin Pizza. On their website, it stated that from May 22 ‘til the 29th, every order placed will support the Human Rights Foundation’s Bitcoin Development Fund. Another is Fidelity Digital Assets as they tweeted that they’re donating to The Global FoodBanking Network.
Today in history
“Pizza for bitcoins?” These three words started it all. For 10,000 bitcoins on May 18, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz made history as the world’s first BTC transaction where he bought a couple of Papa John’s pizzas. This was when the said digital currency was over a year old. Now, that amount in BTC is valued at over $300 million. Extremely expensive pizzas to say the least.
