Ross Ulbricht is the creator of the darknet market Silk Road, which began to be used for illegal drug sales. In 2013, the developer got arrested for creating and managing such a website. Dread Pirate Roberts was the alternate pseudonym name of the creator. Since his arrest, the Silk Road creator came public from prison for the first time ever at the Bitcoin 2021 conference in Miami. In the conference, Ulbricht spoke to the public in a phone call with Bitcoin Magazine from a maximum-security federal prison. However, in the entire session, he mentioned freedom and asked the world to continue to support independence.
Bitcoin is transforming the global economy, as per Ross Ulbricht
In the conference, Ross Ulbricht stated that he is observing BTC growing from the prison. According to him, no one knew how Bitcoin would turn out when the digital currency was first established. However, over the years, the performance of the coin designed by Satoshi Nakamoto remained impressive. Hence, by supporting the flagship cryptocurrency, the community is moving towards the transformation of the global economy. Following the scenario, the Silk Road developer highlighted that the community had brought a taste of freedom and equality. Similarly, we may transform criminal justice too.

Intention behind the creation of Silk Road
During the conference, Ross Ulbricht explained that he launched the tor and Bitcoin-based marketplace without understanding its future. Indeed, Ulbricht never knew how popular his project will get and how exactly the world will use it.
Notably, the main intention behind the project remained to leverage the uniqueness of the leading digital asset.
According to Ross, he believed that he would try and do something that could actually bring a difference with BTC. Being impatient, he rushed with his first-ever idea at the age of 26. And at the time, he believed that he had to save the world before someone beat it down.
Moreover, the developer never knew whether his idea would ever work. However, his concept was misused for illegal activities like selling illegal drugs, narcotics, and other illicit goods.
Dread Pirate Roberts desired only freedom, privacy, and equality
Ulbricht explained that he only cared about three things that are freedom, privacy, and equality. While creating the Silk Road, he believed that he was furthering his desires, but he never knew the irony behind the thoughts.
In 2013, after the use of Ulbricht’s project surge for illegal activities, he got arrested. He was the first-time offender with all on-violent charges. After Ulbricht’s trial in 2015, the court ruled him for two life sentences adding forty years without parole.
Indirectly, the excellent brain was condemned to die in prison for creating something that was misused by others. Ultimately, by his creation, Ross wound him up in a place where the things he desired never existed.
Ulbricht’s family and friends are grinding to reduce his sentence
Family and friends of Dread Pirate Roberts have begun a Free Ross Project since he was sentenced to court. His friends also claimed that it is unbelievable that Ross has something dangerous in his character. Indeed, Ulbricht’s kins are still putting their efforts to garner support to reduce his sentence. Moreover, to prove the disparity, they also shared other defendant’s details behind the idea.
Bitcoin, with its community, is strong and powerful
In the entire session, Ulbricht appealed to the Bitcoin community that freedom is very much essential, and everyone should realize that. He also highlighted that users should understand the significance of liberty and enhancement of qualities of the technology by helping cases like what happened with him.
Moreover, he also deemed that BTC is solid and influential. Likewise, the community is also powerful. Hence it’s time to wake up and take steps.
Dread Pirate Robert explained freedom with his example
Ross, in the call, explained about the hole, which is a prison within the prison where he was kept into. Once Ulbricht had sent four months straight in the hole. According to him, the hole had broken him, and it felt like the walls were crushing on him. After days, he began to kick the wall and kick the heavy metal doors.
Notably, it was then when something deep inside the developer cried out for freedom. Ross also claimed that he had air inside there, although that was stale and foul, but he had. He had water, and it didn’t make him sick. Every day he used to get his food from a slot through the door. Still, there was no freedom.
One in the hole, Ross had a dream where he was in a park. He felt a huge relief that he was not in prison anymore. However, in the dream, Russ got worried whether he is out on bail or what. And the anxiety then woke him up, that if he again is going to be put in the hole.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the day he received his sentence, her mom was not good at health, and she had to go home early. The next day he called her sister from the prison. In the call, her sister asked whether he knew anything about mom, and her expression seemed like she was going to tell that she is no more. However, she said she had been taken to hospital, and her condition is not good. At that moment, her mother was in the ICU lying unconscious.
Ross believed that he is the one guilty of the condition of her mother. He thinks that he broke her mothers and nearly killed her. And all because he thought the individuals globally could live free. Through what happened to him just wanted to make us understand what it means to lose our freedom. The Silk Road developer also mentioned that losing our liberty is more than being locked in a cage.
The Silk Road creator is not a violent drug lord
After Ross was imprisoned, some magazines he received in prison caricatured him as some sort of ghoul or an evil figure. In the Bitcoin 2021 event, Ross claims that he is not a violent drug lord. And such lies were crafted to keep him in the cage and turn the world against him. Moreover, the Silk Road creator also highlighted that he is now afraid of retaliation and fearful of what he revealed in the conference that could throw him again in the hole.
Freedom and equality follows Bitcoin
According to Ross, Bitcoin has been transforming this planet since the first block was mined, and we are just getting started. Moreover, wherever BTC gets embraced, freedom and equality follow. He has considered Bitcoin as the embodiment of freedom. Further, he explained that we have a law of liberty with despair and darkness on one side. On the other side, he mentioned that we have Bitcoin, which gives us freedom, equality, and hope.
