Dogecoin has gained traction globally with its tremendous performance this year. The coin has gained thousands of percent since the beginning of this year. However, due to the mid-May crash DOGE slid downwards. But in recent weeks it seems the coin is getting its bullish rally back, like Elon Musk, the Dogefather again shared positive statements on Twitter. Moreover, newly promoted English side Watford was found wearing the emblem of the digital asset on its sleeve during the club’s first premiership of this season.
Watford joins the Dogecoin frenzy
The English Premier League (EPL) has begun with much aplomb during this weekend. The EPL would be one to remember for long not only for sports lovers but also cryptocurrency enthusiasts. One of the teams of the EPL, Watford is found promoting Dogecoin during the opening fixture against Aston Villa in the league.
According to a report shared by a local news outlet, the move was facilitated by Stake.com, a digital assets casino, and sports betting site. The website also doubles as the premier league’s official shirt sponsor. Moreover, it is revealed that the firm has paid for the addition of the hyped asset emblem to the sleeve of the club to promote the coin.
Watford previously sponsored Bitcoin
It is worth noting that Watford is not the first time having such a crypto-related shirt. In 2019, the club was sponsoring another crypto betting site, sportsbet.io. The website was one of the club’s major sponsors and it wore the name of the brand in its jersey. At the time Bitcoin was written on the sleeve of the shirt during the entire season.
However, it is known that as part of the latest deal, the main shirt sponsor is Stake.com. The deal will be worth about £700k ($970k) to the Premier League newcomers. Furthermore, the deal could break the previous pacts or sleeve partnerships with Bitcoin of £1 million if it gains global traction.
Cryptocurrency adoption in sports
It is not the first time that the two different spheres are collaborating. Recently, we have witnessed that Paris St Germain had been involved in its club fan token $PSG as part of a financial package. Moreover, Lionel Messi is joining the club, where he will receive his salary in cryptocurrency.
Simultaneously, Barcelona has been receiving several digital currency offers. Crypto firms are ready to sponsor the left sleeve of the club. However, Barcelona is cautious of risks associated with digital currency, but it could consider the offers following a good count of money.
Moreover, firms like Crypto.com are collaborating with leading sports sporting events in its bid to push digital currencies mainstream.
