Visa has partnered with a former major league baseball player and an NFT turned enthusiast, Micah Johnson, to build a program that will give a platform to artists to use NFTs to sell their work.
As per the release issued by Visa, the artists will have the freedom to sell any type of their work, merchandise etc. via NFTs. Visa will select a small group of creators through an application process and then help them learn about the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry.
Visa, through this collaborative effort with Johnson, will help other artists understand the NFT technology and how to harness blockchain for producing and selling digital goods. NFTs are digital assets only which are created to showcase and sell art, music, videos and games.
Aid to participants
As part of this initiative, Visa will have an open application procedure to choose a group of artists. Once the artists are chosen, the company would then sponsor the organisation and provide consultation services to help participants to understand the crypto world and traditional payment infrastructure. Visa will also aim to build ties between artists and Visa’s network of payment providers, which can help creators grow their audiences and companies.
Johnson will serve as the collaborator in the partnership. He retired from baseball in 2018 and only a year later joined the NFT market. Having been a big enthusiast of NFT, he said that it has unlocked many opportunities for him to build a community of people interested in supporting his work. He has been able to create a small business with the help of the crypto community. His business is built around his crypto-native character Aku that can grow into a global media company.
The popularity of NFTs is growing at a fast pace. Rapper Lil Nas X is one of the newer to announce the creation of a limited edition NFT token. Burger King introduced an NFT initiative last month as part of its new Royal Perks loyalty programme, which allows NFT fans to collect digital tokens that unlock extra goodies after the set is completed.
