  • The popular game maker was forced to think twice about introducing NFTs in their games.
  • Questions regarding the proliferation of the NFTs were raised by the gamers
  • If NFTs don’t provide any Tangible benefits, he might not introduce them, said the CEO of Sega.

Sega, the popular game maker, may not introduce NFTs as a concern arises about whether they are a money-making scheme.

Though nowadays, NFTs are quite in trend and are loved by gaming enthusiasts. Some people see NFT as a unique use case for cryptocurrency and blockchain, but gamers are starting to question the reason behind its augmentation.

It’s not unknown that some people have always been skeptical about NFTs, which is also epitomized by the price of the in-demand NFT artwork. There are suspicions about them, even though in-game NFTs are of use.

Recently in a video, YongYea, the popular Youtuber with a subscriber base of around 1.17 million, told his subscribers that the gaming industry is working towards normalizing NFTs. But it’s being done without the clarity of why and how it will be beneficial to games.

He expressed his criticisms towards the push towards play-2-earn, in which he believes how games become less about fun and more like an investment opportunity which, for revenue, can be exploited by the publishers.

Haruki Satomi, the CEO of Sega, said in a recent management meeting about his firm’s interest in experimenting with NFTs. Simultaneously Setomi also acknowledged the negative thoughts surrounding them. He expressed how Sega should go further with the matter, also quoting that they need to be careful while assessing a lot of things along with the ways to alleviate the negative aspects. And also regarding the Japanese regulations and the amount of acceptance by the users.

Satomi also said that if the NFTs don’t offer the gamers something tangible, then he won’t implement them in the offerings by Sega.

NFTs impact the mainstream in a significant way. It’s because NFTs can be anything ranging from a song, a film, or anything. After all, Non-Fungible tokens can actually represent anything from the real world, and this feature gives a much broader scope of influencing people.

According to Linkin Park lead singer Mike Shinoda, NFTs have become a way to take in dollars from the gamers. And stressing on the publishers, he said that gamers are the givers here, they are not the ones who take. Further, he added that fun and adventure should be the primary goal in the gaming industry.

It is surprising to see that on the one hand, NFTs are becoming so popular in the gaming world, and on the other hand, some gamers are skeptical about their existence and hype. It will be interesting to look forward to whether the decision and discussion can further gain any praise or criticism from the gaming industry.
