In order to take strict actions against the Freedom Convoy Trucker’s movements and people who would have any kind or role in such activities, Canadian Authorities went on to seize the donations. But reports are that the authorities are now facing difficulty in seizing the bitcoin donations made to the Freedom Convoy movement that followed the protesting of a group against vaccine mandates in Canada.
As per the report, the Government in Canada is struggling while recovering most of the crypto donations, worth approx $880,000, that were donated to the cause of Freedom Convoy.
Last month, local authorities and government officials in Canada were able to bring the protests to an end in the Ottawa region. Prime minister Justin Trudeau moved forward to implement the Emergency Act in the country, under which the Government was able to freeze the bank accounts that were involved somehow with donating to the movement of Freedom Convoy. Canadian officials also told GoFundMe, a crowdfunding platform that donated to the movement, to return their donations worth $10 million to Freedom Convoy.

This was for the Canadian Government to stop donations, and else they have been unable to check on fundraiser goes by the name ‘Bitcoin for Truckers’, which raised donations in crypto for the protest. In Ontario, the Supreme Court has ordered the multi-sig wallet owners, which contained the donated bitcoin, to freeze the funds on top of 122 other distinct crypto addresses.
CBC reported that 14.6 Bitcoin from a total of 20.7 BTC had been distributed to different 101 unidentifiable separate crypto wallets even before the order of the Ontario Supreme Court. One of the members of multi-sig wallet, Nicholas St. Louis, who posted under the handle on Twitter with Nobody Caribou said that the transfer had been done well before the legal threats made against the group involved in donations.
Cryptocurrencies and digital assets have become unique and new forms of medium for donations and related transactions. Apart from Freedom Convoy Trucker’s movement in Canada, donations in cryptocurrencies and NFTs, fundraised by NFT sales and several other mediums, had emerged to raise the funds for Ukraine amidst the war with Russia.
