Montenegro Grants Vitalik Buterin Citizenship: To Fuel Nation’s Emergence As A Blockchain Hub

  • Montenegro has reportedly provided the Ethereum co-founder with citizenship.

Montenegro, a small southeast European nation’s Government, has taken its move toward becoming a hub for blockchain innovation. 

Vitalik To Offer Hands To Attain Montenegro’s Desires 

It has supposedly made the Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin its newest citizen. A local news outlet  RTCB recently reported that Zdravko Krivokapić, the Prime Minister of the southeast European nation, suggested that Buterin get the privilege to help the nation carry forward its efforts to emerge as a blockchain innovation hub. 

There seems to be no official announcement regarding this as such, but a photo is going quite viral, shared by Minister of Finance and Social Welfare Milojko Spajić. The image showed the instance when Buerin received his passport. 

Montenegro conducted Future now, a panel discussion hosted by Minister Spajić earlier in April, where it invited the Ethereum co-founder.

The panel discussion further hosted other prominent personalities like Vlad Zamfir, the Ethereum researcher, and Boris Mamlyk, who is a professor of law at the University of Memphis, who, along with the Minister, talked about the legality of the blockchain identity, smart contracts in government and similar topics. \

Another local news outlet Mina reported in the first week of April that in a meeting, Prime Minister Krivokapić, along with Buterin and some other authorities, also discussed options for Montenegro regarding blockchain space. Another primary topic that was raised was how to regulate crypto for the local citizens in Montenegro. 

Minister Spajić highlighted that Montenegro thrives on emerging as a center of innovation in blockchain technology with a focus on all the advantages of a legitimate industry that would bring attractive regulations. 

The Government of Montenegro seems to be now digging deeper into the regulatory network of blockchain technology. 

Furthermore, during the panel discussion, the guests emphasized on how the folks can legally create a community utilizing blockchain. And also verify their identity and stay secure from any kind of theft. 

Boris Mamlyk suggested that decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) could issue DAO tokens for individuals to prove their identity as members and also safeguard their privacy. But the Ethereum co-founder highlighted that there is no magic one-line principle that could deal with the troublemakers. 

Buterin answered on whether Montenegro should enable firms to register as DAOs. He referred to Wyoming, which looks at DAOs as legal entities. He suggested it might be a good place to initiate.
