  • Yuga Labs has filed a lawsuit against Ryder Ripps, a digital artist who also happens to be a BAYC critic.
  • The creators of BAYC recently called accusations of Ripps about the popular NFT project.
  • The NFT industry often witnesses such things with competitors even putting false acquisitions on popular projects.

The company behind the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Yuga Labs, has recently sued the creator of gordongoner(dot)net, Ryder Ripps. The complaint was filed at the District Court of California.

The founders of BAYC recently called accusations of Ripps that they are intentionally embedding Nazi dog whistles throughout their project and a crazy disinformation campaign.

The filing further calls for a jury trial to solve the matter. FamTerra, the blockchain whistleblower has also commented that if you are guilty, it should be known, if you are innocent, you don’t deserve to be slandered. A proper analysis of evidence in a court of law is the ideal way to determine this.

Ripps rolled out his own NFTs collection branded RR/BAYC and sold it through his website for 0.15 ETH. The website highlights that the RR versions are sold out and surpassed the main project in volume. At 10,000 NFTs, Ripps will have made an estimated $1.8 million from the collection, something Yuga Labs calls an ill-gotten profit.

Half of the complaint talks about how Ripps has been trolling the BAYC creator and getting consumers into fraud by purchasing RR/BAYC NFTs in the name of Yuga Labs’ trademark.

Yuga Labs actually believe that Ripps has been trying to devalue the BAYC project by issuing his own RR/BAYC NFTs.

The NFT collection by Ripps was removed from various NFT platforms like OpenSea and Foundation recently. Though an email was posted to Twitter by Ripps that signified that the NFTs will be relisted on Foundation prior to some hours the lawsuit was made public.

Yuga Labs further argues that Ripps asserts that his actions are satire but he conveniently rakes in millions via ill-gotten profit sales of the RR/BAYC NFTs utilizing Yuga Labs’ marks to make those sales. And that copying is not satire, it is theft. And lying to consumers is deception.

What Yuga Labs intend is injunctive relief and damages for fake advertising, false designation of origin, unfair competition, and cybersquatting.
