The crypto crash has changed a lot of things. As it’s one of the consequences, the industry is facing a mining exodus and the high-end graphics cards are not so high on demand currently.

Various crypto enthusiasts and firms are posting images of stacks of GPUs for sale on Twitter, and the decline in prices of new and used units is beginning to decline significantly.

Nvidia RTX 3080s was being sold for as low as $523 in the Chinese reseller markets, as per the reports from Hardware Times early this week. Moreover, on some used marketplaces, RTX 3060 Ti has gone to quite a low between $300 to $350.

Is It A Good Deal?

The purchase of a used computer component is always a risk. Heavy load and high temperatures and voltages can lead to the quicker wear out of the components.

Many took to social media to issue warnings on these graphics cards that they believe were highly corrupted by crypto mining. Besides, there are also reports from individuals who bought the used cards saying that they either had to replace the components or had several issues like heating.

Usually, gamers are not big fans of crypto. Some even denied buying a used GPU on the basis just so that the miners do not gain even more money from the process.

But like all the other things, there are two sides to the story. A gamer explained how thermal expansion and high voltage can completely ruin a processor with time. Moreover, he said that GPUs used for the mining of Ethereum were undervolted so that they consume less energy,  therefore voltage couldn’t degrade them.

Mining GPUs are stuck in a constant state, and because they experience constant cooling and minimal load spikes, their fluctuation in temperature is quite less. He advises to do the purchase from a marketplace that has buyer protection. At last, he says that the people who are manufacturing graphics cards are the only people that want everyone else to believe used cards are bad.

Not Buy Them Yet

PC Gamer cautioning said that although prices are finally coming back to the retail price as suggested by manufacturers, people should not buy them now, adding “it’s important not to be blinded by the fact they’re available at close to MSRP or even below. It’s taken so long to get here, that the next-gen is just around the corner.”
