Monkey Drainer Thieves Almost $1 Million Ethereum, Find Details Here

  • Recently, a notorious scammer, Monkey Drainer, has stolen approximately one Million ETH.
  • ZachXBT firstly found out about this phishing scam and gave the information through a Tweet.

The Phishing Scam Analyzed by ZachXBT

The on-chain sleuth, ZachXBT, gave the information through the Twitter thread on October 25, 2022 that the phishing scammer, Monkey Drainer, stole ~700 ETH that was worth $1 Million.

It mentioned that the monkey drainer has surpassed 7300 transactions from the drainer wallet after being about for just a few months.

The crypto sleuth added in its twitter thread that the two largest victims of this scam are 0x02a and 0x626 that jointly lost $370K from signing up transactions on the malicious phishing sites that were controlled by monkey drainer.

ZachXBT also added the victim loss as 0x02a lost 1 BAYC, 1 CloneX, 36.k USDC, and 12 other NFTs. The total amount of this loss is around $150K. It also shared the screen shot image inside the scammers group chat as well as the transactions. The following tweet also added a scam report along with  Chainabuse, a multi-chain reporting tool.

In addition, another victim 0x626 that owned more than ~$6.2 Million worth of crypto somehow saved its crypto and lost just $220K by rejecting the other transactions.

Additionally, the on-chain sleuth added that the total number stolen has easily crossed $3.5 Million. It also mentioned the address of two main wallets in its tweet.

Lastly, it requests to be more diligent before visiting any unknown sites that are connecting to the users wallet and signing transactions.

On October 26, 2022 ZachXBT shared the update as “Monkey spammed the thread with bots.”

It must be noted that the following event has airdrop scams through the Astrobot Society discord channel, a Fake Wolf Game and Bored Ape Yacht Club marketplace, and a fake Aptos Airdrop to name a few.

Moreover, the following investigation a Web3 security community Wallet Guard also replied to ZachXBT’s Twitter thread and stated that it had “spotted several other mint sites recently created” that had Monkey Drainer on the backend, including a fake Garbage Friends whitelist link that was a phishing site.
