Experts believe that AR and VR will become gateways to the metaverse. Currently, there’s no official definition of the concept. Many think of the notion as nothing but a hoopla. But there are some who are highly optimistic regarding its future. Mark Zuckerberg is continuously injecting cash into the Reality Labs, company’s R&D arm, for research on virtual worlds.

On October 25 2022, the company released their VR goggles Meta Quest Pro. The product was met with mixed customer reviews especially due to the hefty price tag that came alongside the headgear. Though it didn’t come as a surprise considering how much the organization has spent since its retitlement.

This groundbreaking technology has endless possibilities in a variety of fields. In an initiative in the Republic of Kosovo, kids became the architects. They created a virtual neighborhood on a Minecraft server which was eventually brought to life by the engineers. Many other activities like shopping, attending concerts can be experienced in virtual worlds.

Fashion brands like Gucci, H&M, Prada and more have already set up their shops in the metaverse. Samsung revealed their 837X store New York-based based physical outlet in New York, in Decentraland last year. Lil Nas X organized a virtual concert on Roblox in 2020, amassing over 36 Million attendees during the event.

These are just a few examples of how the metaverse has caught the eyes of popular names from a variety of sectors. Not only this, South Korea’s $44.6 Billion “Digital New Deal” plans to transform its economy by leveraging metaverse technology. The concept is still waiting go mainstream but the potential held by this tech marvel is visible by many.
