The Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates said in a recent live session that the future lies in Artificial Intelligence (AI) not only in the Web3 and Metaverse.
During a live Ask Me Anything session, Bill Gates does not sound like he is convinced with the importance of Web3 and metaverse. As he said, the technology is not “revolutionary”. In response to a Reddit user’s question related to what current technology has the potential the internet already did in 2000, he said, “AI is the big one. I don’t think Web3 was that big or that metaverse stuff alone was revolutionary but AI is quite revolutionary”.
Not only the technology part, but he also responded to questions related to climate change, veganism. While he was repeatedly referring to AI as the most exciting field for technological innovation till date.
When he was asked about his thoughts over ChatGPT — a Chatbot developed by OpenAI, he added that the product “gives a glimpse of what is to come. I am impressed with this whole approach and the rate of innovation”.
He also shared about the possible applications of AI to his own humanitarian work. Mr. Gates said “Thinking of it in the Gates Foundation context we want to have tutors that help kids learn math and stay interested. We want medical help for people in Africa who can’t access a Doctor”.
In 2021, the business magnate predicted that most virtual meetings would shift from 2D platforms such as — Zoom or Teams to the metaverse in just two or three years. Although he was impressed by the fact of VR technology that changed the prospect and enhanced the experience of remote meetings.
Microsoft has also been working to make Mr. Gates’s prediction about virtual meetings a reality, making its meetings apps available on Meta devices.
It must be seen that the billionaire clearly does not support cryptocurrencies and NFTs and said they are “100% based on greater fool theory”.
In addition, it is quite interesting that Mr. Gates’s firm is marking its footprints into the metaverse. As in the previous year, Microsoft was one of the 35 companies to found the Metaverse Standard Forum, along with Meta, Sony and Alibaba.
