  • The World Economic Forum (WEF) noted about how the metaverse will be immensely used in the time ahead.
  • The quest of Nokia to crack the VR space and digital universe.

Telecommunication giant Nokia took the metaverse there to help remote workers, from beer breweries to aircraft technicians in strange location airports.

Nokia’s ambitious Plans

Back in 2021, the erstwhile mobile phone market leader announced a Nokia Data Marketplace, an enterprise-grade blockchain-powered data marketplace infrastructure service.

Korean electronics giant Samsung recently revealed that it would build its own metaverse and will soon launch VR (virtual reality) devices in the near future. Head of Samsung mobile experience, T.M Roh told the Washington Post, they are working hard on “extended reality” hardware, and the development of such devices with the help of Qualcomm and Google.

According to a news website, Nokia Oceania CTO Robert Joyce, discussed the plans that Nokia holds onto in the future. He stated that “Nokia set up two labs last year to really look at the Metaverse and the technologies that underpin the Metaverse.”

The World Economic Forum (WEF) published an article on January 13, 2022 explaining how the metaverse could “change the way we work.” The international organization for Public-Private Cooperation also noted that the technology will allow workers to do their tasks from “safety of their desks.”

WEF noted that metaverse would produce an “immediate impact” not just on the consumer sector, but to every business and industries. The organization also told that the digital twin technology will be helpful in aerospace and shipping.

Mr Joyce said recently that “It’s not the best experience to have a Quest 2 on your head for a couple of hours, and it’s not until people get to the augmented reality wearables that are comfortable [and] mass-produced.”

The role of AI in metaverse

The role of AI (artificial intelligence) will be immensely big in the development of the metaverse. International Telecommunication Union (ITU), United Nations specialized agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) noted that “AI may be the most crucial piece of the metaverse puzzle thanks to its potential to enable the metaverse to scale.”

Meta (former Facebook) announced back in January 2022, that it would introduce a next-generation AI supercomputer — the AI research SuperCluster (RSC), claimed to be one of the fastest in the world by the company, may help boost AI research and prove helpful in metaverse development. The company’s Reality Labs division lost $13.7 billion in 2022, according to CNBC.
