The metaverse has grown into a global phenomenon no matter how many people remain skeptical about that. The term was first coined by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel, Snow Crash. Moreover, several movies have also depicted this concept in the past. In case you people are wondering what it’s like to be in the metaverse, you need to watch these movies. Not only are they entertaining, but they will give a glimpse of how this evolving concept will make a difference in their lives.

Tron (1982)

The movie  focuses on a software engineer Kevin Flynn played by Jeff Bridges aka The Dude. He tries to hack the mainframe of ENCOM, a computer corporation, after he discovers an executive is stealing his work. However, things don’t go according to the plan and his attempt leads him to a virtual world. The movie attempts to depict how a machine can become ‘power hungry’ similar to what we saw in movie series’ like Terminator.

A sequel titled Tron: Legacy was released in 2010 and focused on his son Sam. A television series dubbed Tron: Uprising was released in 2012 and was set between the events of the aforementioned movies.

The Matrix (1999)

Keanu Reeves is considered among the most kind and humble celebrities to this date. The legendary actor had already risen to fame in The Matrix franchise before catching people’s eyes with the John Wick movies. The Matrix focuses on the journey of Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, where he discovers the truth about his current life where he is living in an illusion called The Matrix, while his body lies unconscious in a liquid-filled pod.

The movie shows how a virtual world can lead human brains to go beyond the limits of what we can do in reality. The movie was a box office success followed by three sequels — The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions and The Matrix Resurrections.

Free Guy (2021)

Many of us have dreamt of living inside of a video game we have played during our childhoods. Free Guy is one such movie showing how it is like to be in a video game. Additionally, Ryan Reynolds has executed some class acting skills depicting a ‘guy’ unaware of the fact that he is a non-playable character in Free City, an MMORPG game.

The film became a success at the box office and had amassed over $300 Million over a budget of around $100 Million.

For the ones who want to understand how metaverse is potentially going to be like, these are a must watch movie for them.
