The past few months have not proven very flourishing for Yuga Labs, creators of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). The company is involved in a class action lawsuit which is likely to bring severe damage to its reputation. However, this hasn’t affected their current operations as they have revealed the much anticipated ‘Second Trip’ to the Otherside metaverse.

First Trip was a Huge Success

In the latest Yuga Labs blog–the company announced that they would open another demo visit to their upcoming metaverse game on March 25, 2023. Players can access the forthcoming journey similar to the ‘First Trip.’ Users can enter the event 15 minutes before the start; moreover, they can invite a guest to explore the Bored Ape universe. However, the blog mentions that Otherdeed holders will have priority access.

Bored Ape creators also took this announcement to Twitter. The thread reveals that this trip will be led by first-ever Otherside team captains. Although the metaverse game is expected to launch this year, it appears like the company will release more demo visits prior to that. The forthcoming demo will have a larger area of play compared to the previous one.

First Trip demo onboarded some 4300 users in July 2022. A portal in the gathering lobby led players to Biogenic Swamp, an Otherside land plot. The event also revealed several environments that users would explore upon the official release. Additionally, players will have to collectively defeat an Evil Koda during their time in the metaverse. Voyagers, a name used  for the ‘First Trip visitors,’ will be eligible for the Obelisk piece in the ‘Second Trip.’

Otherdeeds’ trading volume has risen by over 15% in the past 24 hours, according to DappRadar, an NFT data aggregator. The collection sales have declined by over 40% on a weekly basis. Similarly, Mutant and Bored Apes have lost 37% and 68% during the last 7 days.

The community is eagerly waiting for the game’s official release. However, the fact that users are required to hold an Otherdeed makes onboarding of a large user base speculative. A Twitter user jokingly said that Ape holders need to sell their NFTs first to build a compatible gaming PC.’

Furthermore, the metaverse is expected to become an interoperable and open environment where people can easily come and go on their own accord. The Otherside game will potentially give a push to the Yuga securities and web3, but it is still missing the core elements required for a true metaverse. We are yet to see an official release of the game, and the company may reveal more cards in its future developments to increase user engagement.
