Charles Hoskinson, co-founder, and CEO of IOHK shared in his live stream the provisional dates for the launch of OBFT hard fork. He gave a no finalized date for the launch of the OBFT hard fork sometime in this month. Cardano system is now eagerly expecting for the transfer of Shelley Testnet to Mainnet Testnet.
Charles Hoskinson might think that the launch predicted on the 20th of this month, but it originally planned on the 14th of this month, but due to the factor that certain investors and partners of the group need some extra days.
The Byron stage uses Ouroboros Classic and Ouroboros BFT [Ouroboros Byzantine Fault Tolerance] hard fork is named to be the first step towards the Shelley phase.
Hoskinson had previously shared that this hard fork is a method to get the protocol from the Byron phase to the Shelley phase, walking the same path; Cardano will introduce Ouroboros Genesis with another hard fork.
During the shift from the old Testnet to the new one, it has mandated that no new coins or token will be introduced at that time.
The introduction of the Hard Fork will bring about a new consensus algorithm aided on BFT; Cardano will release Byron Reboot with the new Haskell wallet back end access. Charles also pivoted on the point that this the most significant and essential release when the software was released in September back in 2017.
The software developed is completely re-written codes with importance given to the security using formal methods and built in house function. The OBFT hard Fork release is expected to be soon but not before the 20th, and also it is confirmed that the date of launch will not be pushed further into March.
