  • The actual identity of the inventor of Bitcoin is unknown, and there have been many false claimants in the past.
  • Craig Wright is one of the most outspoken of such claimants; his claim is also the most disputed by investigators worldwide.
  • London High Court agreed to a hearing for his case of copyright infringement against the owners of the bitcoin.org handle.

Craig Wright is a self-proclaimed inventor of Bitcoin. It has sued the holders of the bitcoin.org handle in the London High Court, as he believes that he is the rightful owner of any names or tags relating to Bitcoin.

The previous claim was probably a hoax

This is not the first time Australian computer scientist Craig Wright has been in the spotlight to establish himself as the founder of Bitcoin. According to CoinDesk, his claim of being the actual Satoshi Nakamoto – the author of the Bitcoin white paper, has been investigated and debunked several times in the past, with discerned netizens going as far as calling the whole scheme an elaborate ploy. Over the years, Craig’s evidence and his story raise questions and uncertainty about his claims.

The UK Court agrees to hearing

As a Britain resident, Craig approached the London High Court to file a lawsuit against the anonymous handles of bitcoin.org, who only go by the pseudonym “Cobra.”

The exact location and identity of the individual/group behind Cobra are still uncertain as the group has not filed those in the lawsuit proceedings. Craig wants Cobra to resign control of bitcoin.com and remove the Bitcoin white paper – the original foundation of the Bitcoin technology – from the website.

Though Cobra has dismissed the claims as a sham in their bitcoin.com blog, it is still unclear whether the group will be forced to sacrifice their anonymity to enter legal proceedings and defend their position. Moreover, Cobra also states that the website isn’t based in the UK, thus completely shattering Craig’s claims.

However, the legal team of Craig, led by Simon Cohen, is quite confident of a victory as he states that the whole merit of the case lies around whether Craig did actually publish the Bitcoin white paper, thus giving him rights over Bitcoin.

It remains to be seen if Wright wins this case and proves himself to be the man behind the enigma – Satoshi Nakamoto.
