  • Alipay has launched an epidemic prevention information service platform in the wake of a global health emergency due to the novel coronavirus.

  • The new crown pneumonia outbreak has led to an increased need for medical rescue supplies in Hubei, Beijing, Zhejiang, and other provinces in China.

The China-based third-party mobile and online payment platform, Alipay, has launched an epidemic prevention information service platform in the wake of a global health emergency due to the novel coronavirus.

The blockchain-based platform has the same itinerary query function. Reports have also confirmed that Zhejiang Province Medical Materials Security Group has already presented its first material requirement list on the platform.

The list includes medical masks, protective clothing, work caps, etc. The platform is seen as a ray of hope to manage the shortage of supplies and need-based allocation of necessities in Wuhan and other provinces affected by the novel coronavirus.

Reports suggest that Alipay’s epidemic prevention information service platform is different from the already present mechanisms due to its blockchain-based transparency. The platform is presently led by the Zhejiang Provincial Health and Construction Commission and the Economic and Information Bureau.

Further, Alipay also provides special funding and free access to small programmers to work towards blockchain-based solutions for logistical and other problems that come up during an epidemic outbreak.

The new crown pneumonia outbreak has led to an increased need for medical rescue supplies in Hubei, Beijing, Zhejiang, and other provinces in China. This has further complicated the process of management, allocation, and donation of supplies as demand is far greater than the availability of these necessities in the market.

Achieving a multiparty point to point collaboration with transparency and efficiently is a huge challenge faced by the administration. As material donations to the affected provinces in China are coming from different parts of the world, the materials from donor to the recipient has to pass through the warehouse, delivery, and confirmation of supply-demand.

Presently, this integration has posed a major challenge. Alipay believes that the blockchain mechanism can initiate trust and bring credibility to the mechanism. The platform uses blockchain tech to create a connection where every link by the operator can be seen on the chain.

In the current scenario, each load of material is distributed through a third-party mechanism. Through the platform, no matter how many links are added, the entire record can be traced, and confirmations of delivery can be obtained effectively. It is a go-to solution to ensure simplistic multiparty cooperation.

Alipay’s records also show that this blockchain-based solution has previously been successfully implemented in public welfare, government affairs, people’s livelihood, and supply chain finance.
