OSCE Training Camp

Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) which is jointly organized by the United nation office of counter-terrorism (UNOCT) has set up a five-day training course to develop a co-operation among various law enforcement agencies to combat the spread of new psychoactive substances (NPS).

Which is currently being facilitated by the dark web and using cryptocurrency as the mode of payment which concluded today on 21 February 2020 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

In the training camp, more than 20 representatives of law enforcement agencies from various countries such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and the Russian Federation have participated in the course.

How the camp was relevent

The training camp helped participants to develop techniques to identify websites with red tags “Malicious contents” and sporting anonymity and encryptions. They also helped them to find the linkage with the Dark web if any.

The highlight of the training camp was providing and enhancing knowledge about the role of cryptocurrency in the drug racket and how people are trading cryptocurrency with drugs on the dark web.

It was high time for central Asia to have this type of camp as it is a fertile ground for new psychoactive substances. The rise of NPS was the focus of OSCE to organize such awareness camps.

The illegal business running in the Deep web is an underrated threat that nobody is currently talking and since the introduction of Cryptocurrency also known to be an untraceable currency, it became easier for criminals to organize themselves invisibly with no signs of going down.

Eduard Lokotunin, Police Affairs officer said at the SPMU about the strategy to combat illicit drugs that the New psychoactive substance poses a great threat to Central Asia and from there it will spread from here to the whole world globally. Cryptocurrency technology is widely used for criminal purpose especially in the dark web which includes drug trade.

He also assured that the OSCE experts in co-operation with other participating organizations will be providing all the assistance to the Central Asia Law enforcement agencies.
