Microsoft patent application ‘Cryptocurrency System Using Body Activity Data’ outlines the idea of analyzing brain waves in mining cryptocurrency. The application published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) was brought to notice by the PC Magazine.

It provides a detailed description of how the brainwaves and body heat could be utilized in the mining process. Also, only those brain waves emitted as a result of performing tasks provided by an information service provider (ISP). The tasks could be anything ranging from viewing an advertisement or utilizing definite internet services.

Cryptocurrency awarded to users on verification of body activity data

Highlighting Microsoft’s hypothesis, it believes the data generated by the users’ body activity will solve the difficult computational problem unconsciously. Besides brain waves and body heat, the system can monitor the flow of body fluid flow, organ activity, and movement.

Nonetheless, this costs the biometric scanning of users that could be obtained via attached sensors. The Microsoft system will then pay cryptocurrencies to users as a reward for the completion of certain tasks. The awards are given to those users whose body activity data is successfully verified.

The Microsoft patent application has also notified how the system can trace tasks besides the watching of ads. Tasks including social media, use of search engines, chatbots, and a few more.

The release of this Microsoft patent application is however accompanied by a lot of unanswered questions. Questions have arisen on which cryptocurrency will be used to pay and how the mining will benefit Microsoft. A major concern all though remains if mining of the cryptocurrencies will cause users to use definite services.

And an even bigger concern is whether Microsoft invention will lead the transition to a fully-fledged product from a proof-of-concept. Amid these unanswered questions, the better thing it signifies is how major tech enterprises are bringing innovative ideas to the table.
