  • The minimum validator count for chain launch is set at 16,384 validators
  • As of now, out of the 524,288 required ETH, 213,888 have been deposited
  • The Medella testnet expected to support Prysm, Lighthouse, Teku, Nimbus, and Lodestar to diversified clients.

In a recent tweet by Danny Ryan from Ethereum Foundation requested the community to help kick off the Medalla testnet by running the genesis validators. He also added that 9700 validators were left until the genesis block is formed.

The community Will manage the New Multi-Client Testnet

Ryan, a few days ago, had announced the launch date of Medalla multi-client testnet. In Ethereum’s official blog, Danny wrote that after the successful inception of Altona testnet and after much discussions with the ETH 2.0 developer team, the new testnet is expected to have a minimum genesis time of 6 days. The entire testnet is to be maintained and built for the community. This means that the well being and stability of the testnet will now entirely dependent on the community. Moreover, the estimated genesis time is the earliest by which the Beacon chain may start. But the chain won’t be started if the required number of validators are not reached. The minimum validator count for chain launch is set at 16,384 validators (524,288 ETH).

Genesis Is Expected To Reach By 4th August

The official Medalla Multiclient Eth 2.0 testnet shows that it is currently undergoing genesis. Anyone can be a part of the testnet by simply turning in Beacon chain and validator clients. For every client that they run, the users will receive a Proof of Attendance Protocol or mostly referred to as POAP. The POAP dapp is meant to celebrate the upcoming launch of Medalla testnet and to foster community engagements. On setting up a node and validator successfully, users will be given badges in the form of ERC-721 tokens, which would signify their participation in the event.

213,888 ETH Have Been Deposited Already

As of now, out of the 524,288 required ETH, 213,888 have been deposited. As soon as all the deposits are made to the Goerli deposit contract, Genesis will be reached. The deposits that are made to the Beacon chain are accepted after a block delay of 1024 Ethereum 1.0 blocks. The Medella testnet is expected to support Prysm, Lighthouse, Teku, Nimbus, and Lodestar to diversified clients. The estimated time to reach genesis is six days or on 4th August. Once the beacon chain reaches genesis, people will be allowed to explore epochs, slots as well as statistics.
