According to Investopedia, 2020 was definitely the year for the investment management firm Grayscale Investments. The conjugation of rising Bitcoin prices and soaring institutional investors propelled the firm towards the most profitable year in its history.
Q4 of 2020 a Pivotal Point for Grayscale’s AUM
The investor demand and the assets under management (AUM) multiplied by 10 times and stood at a high of $20.2 billion in 2020. According to the investment report, the last quarter of 2020 was highly beneficial to the firm because it alone accounted for an inflow of $3.3 billion. The amount is almost equal to 58% of Grayscale’s yearly investment and is approximately equal to half of its lifetime investment in its products.
$217.2 Million on Grayscale’s Crypto Trust
Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust helped the AUM of trust jump from $1.8 billion to $17.5 billion as investors poured money. The GBTC helped the investors gain indirect exposure to bitcoin and enabled trading on OTC markets. Approximately a total of $217.2 million was invested every week. Apart from BTC, Grayscale has trust holdings of different cryptocurrencies like Litecoin(LTC) and Ethereum(ETH).
The total contribution of institutional investors stood at 93% of the total investment flows for Grayscale. The company reported that the assets under management experienced very rapid growth because of the economic instability caused by the pandemic.
