- First Champion League team to release an NFT
- Most matches of EPL played before empty stands
- Art collection will be available at the MakersPlace on Monday, 24th May
Manchester City, the EPL champions, is celebrating its title win by releasing digital artwork titled the ‘1’ collection, and it will be available for sale as NFT or Non-Fungible Tokens.
Retail Technology Innovation Hub reports that Manchester City will be making its championship win uniquely, releasing a commemorative artwork in the form of an NFT.
An NFT for the newbies is a digital certificate of ownership of artwork or anything of value. The ownership and its rarity are guaranteed and secured via blockchain.
It will be the first time that a premier league champion is releasing an NFT. The artwork comprises four pieces created by multidisciplinary artist Jon Noorlander. The artwork is also autographed by all the players of the Manchester City Team.
A free prize draw will be held
Additionally, Retail Technology Innovation Hub reports that a free prize draw will be held, and people will have an opportunity to win an edition of The Champions Medal. A percentage of Manchester City’s profits from the sale will be given to the City in the Community charity. The project supports the mental health of the youth in Manchester in the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic.
The art collection will be available at the MakersPlace on Monday, 24th May. It is on this day Manchester City will lift the Premier League trophy at the Etihad Stadium.
Digital engagements have become more and more relevant
This year most of the games were played in front of empty stands because of COVID-19 restrictions. Don Dransfield, an official at City Football Group, said that digital engagements have become more and more relevant with passing the time. He added that Jon Noorlander, who created the art piece, is unique and fluid in his style and is much akin to the playing style of Pep Guardiola’s.
