Landon Cassill, a NASCAR driver, and Voyager Digital Ltd. have announced a partnership in which Cassill will be paid entirely in cryptocurrency. Cassill will be compensated in Litecoin (LTC) and Voyager Token (VGX) for driving a purple No. 4 car with a full Voyager wrap. In a sponsorship deal with Voyager that kicks off this weekend at Nashville Superspeedway, Landon Cassill will be the first NASCAR driver to be paid entirely in cryptocurrency. Cassill’s perspective on cryptocurrency
Cassill said he is a crypto user who has been doing so for a long time in a phone interview. He had wanted to do this for a long time, but he needed to find the right partner to do it with. Many of his fans are cryptocurrency users, and it has recently received a lot of mainstream, retail attention. So, from the standpoint of a community and an athlete advocating for a space, the timing was ideal this summer.
The NASCAR driver is said to have been very active in the Litecoin and other token markets for several years, making significant gains. His Twitter profile picture shows the 31-year-old in racing gear with laser eyes, indicating that he is interested in cryptocurrency on social media.
There are a few pilots who enjoy crypto, but I am probably one of the few who has been around long enough to understand how it works, according to Cassill. He can trade it right away before the market changes, or he can hold on to it while the market rises or falls, take a small amount, pay my bills, and keep the rest.
Cassill’s agreement with Steve Ehrlich, CEO of Voyager
In 2019, Cassill met Voyager CEO Steve Ehrlich at a Litecoin summit, and the two struck up a friendship over their shared interest in cryptocurrency. Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans for a similar deal fell through. Cassill said he called Ehlrich a few weeks ago with the idea of putting Voyager branding on a race car and accepting cryptocurrency as payment as the world began to open up.
In an interview, Ehrlich stated that he believes it is critical that the people with whom you do business understand cryptography. He looks for things that are beneficial to the crypto industry as a whole in order to help the ecosystem as a whole gain support. Others, he believes, will see this and see opportunities in the space. It’s about people having faith in a system that isn’t based on traditional systems. Earlier this year, Voyager signed a deal with Miami Heat guard Victor Oladipo. The company also partnered with the Oakland Athletics to sell all of the A’s home games in 2021 for one Bitcoin.
The agreement represents a significant step forward for Litecoin in the cryptosphere. The fact that Litecoin (LTC) was used to pay for Landon Cassill’s sponsorship is exciting and a validation of LTC’s original purpose, according to Charlie Lee, Litecoin’s creator and managing director of the Litecoin Foundation.
