After signing a representation deal with United Talent Agency for CryptoPunks, Meebits, and Authoglyphs, Larva Labs’ blockchain-created IP is headed to Hollywood. Larva Labs, the creators of the wildly successful NFT project CryptoPunks, has signed a partnership with United Talent Agency, a Hollywood talent agency (UTA). UTA will represent Larva Labs for intellectual property (IP) negotiations in TV, cinema, video games, licensing, and publishing, according to a Hollywood Reporter article published on August 31. UTA will also represent Meebits and Autoglyphs, two other Larva Labs NFT initiatives.

Earliest NFT initiatives on Ethereum

CryptoPunks was one of the earliest NFT initiatives on Ethereum, having been started in 2017. The IP deal with UTA represents a watershed moment for Larva Labs, as it is one of the first examples of blockchain-based material making its way into the mainstream entertainment industry. He would say that it is one of the first possibilities for an IP that truly originated in the crypto-world to enter a broader entertainment sector, and they deserved it, according to Lesley Silverman, head of UTA Digital Assets.

He continued, They’ve really hit the zeitgeist in a big way. For the majority of its brief existence, the CryptoPunks project had a very small fanbase, before erupting in popularity this year amid a huge wave of interest in the NFT industry, which witnessed $2.5 billion in sales in the first six months of this year.

Sales of Larva Labs since 2017

The Larva Labs OG NFTs have produced a total of $1.18 billion in sales since 2017, according to data from the CryptoPunks website, with $304.8 million in sales in the last seven days alone. The cheapest CryptoPunk is presently available for purchase for 115 Ethereum (ETH), which is approximately $391,000 at the time of publication.

CryptoPunks is supposedly owned by celebrities such as rapper Jay Z, electronic dance musician Steve Aoki, and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk. Visa purchased CryptoPunk 7610 — a female figure with a mohawk, clown green eyes, and lipstick — for 49.50 ETH, worth $150,000 at the time of purchase.

There are a total of 10,000 CryptoPunks NFTs, each of which was created using a set of unique attributes to create the individual pixel art avatars. They were first claimed for free, according to TechCrunch, who reported in April this year that a collector known as mr703 online nabbed 703 Punks at launch, storing hundreds of the NFTs in a collection now worth tens of millions of dollars at current values.

Other NFT projects from Larva Labs follow CryptoPunks’ computer-generated path. The Meebits NFTs, which were released in May, is a collection of 20,000 distinct 3D voxel characters designed for usage in Metaverse and NFT gaming. Autoglyphs is a generated art project restricted to 512 NFTs that allows anyone to create a Glyph by paying 0.20 ETH ($687) to Larva Labs’ chosen charity, 350.org, which works to mitigate climate change.
