With cryptocurrency booming in popularity these past few years, crooks have found yet another avenue to take advantage of unknowing victims online. This prompted the United States Department of Justice to recently post a job listing as they are, as of late, looking for National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET) director.

The said government agency is on the lookout to head the above-mentioned position as they’re looking for that individual who has at least five years of post-Juris Doctor (J.D.) legal experience alongside a wide comprehension of cryptocurrency technology and the blockchain.
It was also mentioned that the successful applicant will be leading a group of prosecutors that will be looking into and prosecuting cases that are connected to crypto. Further, the yet-to-be-appointed NCET director will also be in charge of prioritizing investigations and assisting in the justice department’s work to fight off the utilization of digital assets as a tool for unlawful deeds.
For the uninitiated, NCET was created in early October by the DOJ to heed the call of the growing number of crimes that were done through the use of anything cryptocurrency-related.

In line with this, the DOJ had issued a press release. It pointed out that since cryptocurrencies are used in a wide array of illegal activities, from being an instrument for ransomware payments to money laundering and the unlawful and unregistered activities of money services and businesses to being one of the preferred options of exchange of value on what is described as “dark markets” for prohibited substances, weapons, and even hacking tools/malware. It went on to state that the agency will be promoting the development of expertise both in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency across all aspects of the Justice Department’s work.
Reports also noted that the NCET is planning to build relationships alongside law enforcement agencies at federal, state, and local levels and at the same time team up with the private sector that has sound knowledge when it comes to cryptocurrencies.
