Disney wants to teleport its magic into the world of Metaverse

  • The CEO of Disney Bob Chapek, in the earnings call stated that the company was planning to enter into the Metaverse Business. 
  • Bob did not reveal the intricacies of the project leaving room for speculations from fans & experts 
  • Disney will compete with other brands that are currently racing against time to build their Metaverse. 

The Metaverse is the recent buzz word, as many software, gaming & entertainment companies rush to create their own alluring worlds of the Metaverse another contender has been added to the list, Disney recently announced that it would be creating its own Metaverse where users can experience the magic of Disney in the virtual yet realistic world of the Metaverse.

In the recent earnings call, the CEO of Disney, Bob Chapek, issued statements to his shareholders, the company was planning to invest in Metaverse. He initiated the conversation by pointing out the historic adaptability of the company & how it adopted the early use of technology to enrich the consumers’ experience while citing examples like Pixar. 

As he continued, the CEO explained that the companies’ current efforts were just a prologue to a time in the future where humanity could connect the physical & virtual more closely than ever before.

Chapek further believes that the Metaverse could enhance the storytelling quality of Disney where consumers could experience the stories without many boundaries in Disney’s own Metaverse. Going further, he states that the company was looking forward to the opportunity to deliver whatever Disney had to offer in terms of its products & platforms into the Metaverse. 

The CEO expressed that they’re excited about the next 100 years of Disney’s future as a company. 

However, The CEO didn’t reveal much of the project’s intricacies or how & when Disney was planning to introduce its Metaverse. According to the former vice president of the Digital, Tilak Mandadi expects something like a theme park metaverse from Disney where people can experience through wearables like VR, Sensory equipment & other access points of human senses.

Disney isn’t the only company planning to create a metaverse, the term picked up trend when Facebook decided to rename itself as meta, pursuing the goal of connecting people into the Metaverse. Creator of Fortnight, Epic games Inc. has also decided to build its Metaverse and tailor it to game specifics for games like Fortnight. Companies like Microsoft are also busy creating office-themed Metaverse, where it expects people to work in it. As the race to create the most alluring times accelerates, it would be interesting to see which company launches a full-fledged metaverse.
