2021 has been a great year for NFL fans, stadiums run again in full swing after 2020 saw empty stadiums.

Throughout 2021, the market capitalization reached all-time high prices multiple times in 2021, eventually reaching the top $69,000 in early November, which led to the increase in Bitcoin’s media coverage.

In 2021, Seven NFL players made the decision to turn to crypto and start getting paid in crypto or having their cash salary be partially converted to crypto.

These players have capitalised on the increased profitability of Bitcoin and the return of the regular season.

Aaron Rodgers

On November 1, in a video post on Twitter, Aaron Rodgers, the reigning 2020 NFL said that he will be parenting with Cash App Payment Service to accept a portion of his salary in Bitcoin. Aaron will earn roughly $22.3 million this year.

Rodgers also shared his plans about donating $1 million to BTC.

A fraction of Rodger’s salary will be credited to his Cash App account, which will then be used to buy BTC.

Tom Brady

Another high-profile NFL star who was involved heavily in cryptocurrency in 2021, Tom Brady. Brady will be paid in cryptocurrency by FTX exchange followed by his purchase in an equity stake in Sam Bankman-Fried’s exchange and will be serving as a brand ambassador. He, however, has not yet spoken about him being paid in BTC by the NFL.

The football legend hasn’t just limited himself to crypto-assets, the football legend star has launched his own NFT platform, named Autograph, luring the best talent in sports, entertainment, fashion, and pop culture.

Ties between Brady and Crypto are much more than that.

Throwing the 600th passing touchdown of his career later in October and scoring an all-time high for the NFL, he took Brady’s position as the all-time leading touchdown passer in the history of the league.

The fan who was initially given the ball by the receiver who completed the touchdown was paid 1 BTC by Brady. At the time of the game, BTC used to be worth about $62,000.

Also, According to Goldin Auctions Sports memorabilia auction company, the ball itself maybe be worth over $500,000

Aaron Jones

Green Bay Packers Aaron Jones is the next player on the list of NFL players who are earning crypto. In September, Jones signed a deal with  FTX and became its investor.

Similar to Tom Brady, Jones also bought an equity stake in the exchange.

The running back will also integrate with the FTX Pay platform into his own charity’s site to set it up for accepting crypto donations.

Sean Culkin

While other NFL players are only converting only a portion of the salary, Sean Culkin is going to swap his entire salary. Sean Culkin, Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, has publicly announced his intention to convert his salary into BTC from the NFL.

Culkin also in a statement hinted about the reason behind his involvement in crypto:

“Considering my career—particularly its physical demands, and brevity–it makes the most sense to be paid in sound money that I believe protects its purchasing power over time.”

Odell Beckham Jr.

Following the footsteps of Aaron Rodgers, late in November, Odell Beckham Jr. (OBJ) has collaborated with Cash App to receive his salary in BTC from the NFL.

According to his contact, this season he will be receiving about $4.25 million from the NFL.

Sharing with his fans, he said he will be giving $1 million BTC back as part of his deal with Cash App.

Beckham’s Twitter profile is a Crypto Punk NFT clearly showing his interest in crypto.

Trevor Lawrence

Another on the list of NFL superstars accepting crypto payments is the Carolina Panthers’ new star, Trevor Lawrence.  NFL and Lawerence’s deal however is not direct. Through an endorsement deal with the crypto portfolio app, FTX comes his crypto salary.

The value of the deal is made public yet, however, there are high chances that he enjoys an appreciation in value. Since last April, when the deal was announced, the total crypto market cap has increased by about $500 billion.

Saquon Barkley

New York Giants running back, Saquon Barkley announced converting all his endorsement pay into BTC.

Similar to Trevor Lawrence, Barkley has not been directly involved with crypto. Instead, he is exchanging a portion of his earring for crypto. He will be using the Strike payment app to gain his BTC.

On July 15, Barkley said this in an interview.

“When you see the KD’s, the Lebrons and Bradys of the world and you want to create generational wealth, you can’t do that with the sport that I play and the position that I play and coming off of injuries. When you sit out of football for a whole year, you realize that this game could be taken away from you.”
