A person impersonating a public attorney was charged in May with persuading a victim to acquire and move more than $100,000 in Bitcoin.

Virtual currency offenses are on the upswing in South Korea, as per the National Police Agency (KNPA), including one case wherein investors lost roughly $2 billion previous year.

KNPA has provided reports of incidents to Interpol and its 195 member states about the voice phishing event.

Interpol’s purple notice is a demand for information on the instances’ modus operandi, items, gear, or techniques of concealment.

Purple Notice

Previous year, the police exchanged data with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) about voice phishing and kidnapping events near Africa in order to avoid and counter to similar offenses.

On the 24th, the National Police Agency reported that it had signed two more Interpol purple wanted notices in connection with the two occurrences, and that it had communicated the global crime cases that Koreans had experienced with 195 member countries.

The purple notice is among Interpol’s eight wanted letters, and it informs member nations of emerging criminal techniques.

The Korean authorities demanded 3 cases of voice phishing, 2 cases of narcotics, 1 case of unusual theft, 2 incidents of abduction at sea, and 1 case of gun manufacture out of a sum of 1,185 purple  notices issued from 2011 to the date.

The content of obtaining 120 million won worth of bitcoins after imitating an attorney in May of last year and fooling the victim’s bank account as being engaged in a wrongdoing is one of the contents provided this time. It differs from traditional account transaction and in person deceiving voice phishing criminal tactics in that it employs digital assets that are hard to monitor.

Armed pirates abducted five individuals, including 4 locals, from a fishing vessel off the coastline of Benin, Africa, in May of previous year, then freed them 62 days later. The purple wanted book details particular criminal procedures such as the pirates’ look and equipped state, the role-sharing scenario, the pirate’s stronghold’s features, the kidnapping procedure, and the path of travel.
