$1 million Already Dispersed Among Affected People
Typhoon Odette hit the Philippines’ south-eastern islands on December 16, affecting at least 400,000 people. Yield Guild Games(YGG), a play-to-earn gaming guild, raised funds to support affected people of the Philippines. Out of $1.45 million funds, nearly $1 million are already distributed among the needy.
The funding was divided among the Philippine Army and Navy and NGOs who utilized it for buying essential goods such as power generators, medicines, and canned food.
A YGG representative also informed that denoted crypto and tokens worth around $458,000 is yet to be converted into fiat for deployment.
A day after Typhoon Odette hit the country, “YGG Pilipinas”, the Filipino branch of the play-to-earn gaming guild, announced the relief operation. By the end of the day, the division was able to raise $110,000 in several crypto tokens, including AXS, SLP, USDC, WETH, and ETH.
The Philippines is home to the largest percentage of YGG community members and thus more close to their hearts, explained Luis Buenaventura, YGG Pilipinas Country Manager, who led the initiative.
He said that they are led by Filipino, and the Philippines represent the largest portion of the worldwide play-to-earn community, and that’s why several play-to-earn projects came forward to support the cause when they heard of the damage caused by Typhoon.
He further added that their community is as significant as their main team. Several among them are surviving without basic facilities such as running water or power for a month now. He observed that various staff members are living in the Typhoon-affected areas.

Broader Web3 Community Also Comes Forward
Besides funds collected by the YGG community, a wider Web3 community also lent a helping hand in raising funds for the displaced and affected people in the Philippines.
On Christmas day, Jeffrey “Jihoz” Zirlin, Co-founder of Axie Infinity, an NFT play-to-earn game, donated 1,000 AXS worth around $55,400 to the relief fund.
In other news, DeFi Kingdoms (DFK) players, another play-to-earn game, voted for a donation of $500,000. An additional amount of $250,000 was contributed by the developer team.
Besides funds, YGG also launched “Crypto Ayuda”, a cash aid project for affected individuals who urgently needed direct help more than relief goods.
According to recent reports, Typhoon damaged $260 million worth of agricultural goods and over 50,000 homes.
