Real Life “Mr. Robots,” Anonymous, Declares All Out Cyberwar Against Russia

Who Is Anonymous?

Have you seen the television series “Mr. Robot” where a group of hackers led by Elliot leads to the fall of “Evil Corps?” If yes, you can easily understand this group, because that’s what they do.

Every time the world sees a major event that can affect the lives of individuals in a negative way, this group gets active to fight against those occurrences.

Anonymous is a decentralized global group of hackers and activists known for their several cyberattacks against numerous government corps, institutions and agencies.

Anonymous’s emergence can be dated back to 2003 on imageboard 4chan displaying the notion of various offline as well as online communities concurrently persisting as a virtualized, chaotic, international brain or hivemind.

Members of Anonymous or Anons, can sometimes be distinguished openly by sporting the Guy Fawkes mask, similar to the movie and the graphic novel, V for Vendetta.

Many Anons have tried to hide their voices via text to speech or voice changers to remain shady.

Prime “Anon” Events

Utility of the term Anonymous in the sense of shared recognition commenced on imageboards, specifically the /b/ board of 4chan, committed to raiding and random content to other websites.

Sherrod DeGrippo discovered Encyclopedia Dramatica during 2004, firstly as a way of documenting tittle-tattle associated with LiveJournal, but it was swiftly adopted as a core platform by Anonymous for parody and other motives.

Anonymous initially got linked to hacktivism in 2008, following the successive acts against the Church of Scientology called Project Chanology.

Another major operation associated with Anonymous goes by the name “Operation Payback,” where Lulzsec’s future member Mustafa Al-Bassam aka Tflow, and other members of the group hacked the website of an anti infringement group, Copyright Alliance.

Many websites went down during this operation, and total downtime is estimated to be 537.55 hours.

Anonymous also targeted government websites, including the FBI, in favor of WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange when he was busted by UK authorities. They also ran campaign on Twitter with a hashtag #OpFreeAssange. Recently Assange has collaborated with NFT artist Pak to trade NFT collection titled Censored in an auction to gather funds to back the case.

The “Cold War” Has Begun

As the situation for World War 3 is getting hot due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, “Mr.Robots,” Anonymous, awakens again. It has declared an all-out cyberwar against Putin-led Russia and is believed to have snatched 65,500 Bitcoins, and confirms that they are on vanguard with others taking side of Ukraine.

Anonymous has taken the accountability of taking down various Russian media websites handled by Kremlin, among those target was Russia Today, which witnessed Mammoth DDoS attacks.

Apart from this, Anonymous have made soldiers an offer they can’t refuse, they said that, for every Russian tank destroyed, they will give out $50K worth of Bitcoin to the tank crews who will take down the Russian war machines.

Anonymous proposed that the tank crew need to wave the white flag and utilize the passcode “Million,” so that the group can identify them.

Anonymous announced the all out cyber war against Putin during February’s end. The anons alerted that a high tide of cyberattacks will be coming from all corners of the globe against Russian leaders, if the invaders continue to destroy Ukrainian lands.
