Twitter has recently announced that the firm would have been charting on a dedicated tab for podcasts into Spotify. Such plans have been unveiled following the social media behemoth’s screenshot posted on the microblogging site by security researcher Jane Manchun Wong. Notably, the tweet featured a screenshot of a microphone icon on Twitter’s menu bar which appears to lead to a page. As reported by The Verge on Wednesday, the dedicated page was titled as “Podcasts”.

Twitter seems to be scrutinizing podcasts

Twitter, one of the leading social media firms based in the Silicon Valley is working on incorporating Podcasts. According to some indications we have observed that the latest feature would be incorporated in the bottom of the platform with a microphone icon.

It is noteworthy that last year Jack Dorsey, former CEO of the firm, launched Spaces, a live audio conversations feature. Notably, the feature was introduced to a wide range of audiences following a small pilot test in December. We have observed that the latest feature was arriving following a pandemic-field boom in audio social applications such as Clubhouse and Discord.

Furthermore, the social media giant has also acquired Breaker, a popular podcasts application in January.

Witnessing the scenario, we can conclude that the decision of the firm to incorporate podcasts feature does not seem so immediate. However, it is yet to be clear how podcasts would appear on the platform. Furthermore, it is not sure whether the team behind Twitter will truly incorporate Spaces.

However, it is notable that in the current scenario, audio sessions being recorded on Spaces are available for only 30 days.

Will Twitter’s feature be able to surpass Spotify and Apple?

In the current scenario, there is no doubt that Spotify Technology SA and Apple Inc. are leading players in the world of podcasting. And now, Twitter, one of the most popular social media platforms, seems to be planning to step in the space.

However, it will be incredible to witness whether the firm will be able to position itself among the behemoths in the industry by introducing its Podcasts on its platform. In contrast, Twitter currently has approximately 290 million active monthly users. And the firm expects that the count of active users will boom to more than 340 million by 2024.
