  • The Turkish President expressed his Metaverse views and integration plans at the Forum Metaverse.
  • They can’t look to the future with confidence if the future of the nation’s minds and hearts grow dependent on channels of other nations, highlights President Mahmut Özer.
  • But it seems like the public is not really very Metaverse friendly there, as Tweets against the idea started to trend following the announcement.

Forum Metaverse was led with a slogan; The future belongs to those who design it. The Forum hosted over 2,000 attendees from Congress, Ministries, and the Presidency.

The Guests could experience the virtual world via several demonstrations upon arrival, further moving on to discussion sessions to talk about the risks and the opportunities.

President Erdoğan commenced the event with a focus on digital transformation. He further declared the year 2022 to be the year of digital mobilization as he referred to the global movement. He signified that Turkey would generate their own digitalization to prevent the youth from going on to foreign cultures.

According to the President, they won’t know peace without producing their authentic content, software, and technologies. They can’t look to the future with confidence if the future of the nation’s minds and hearts grow dependent on channels of other nations. He further highlighted that the nation would be investing heavily in the metaverse.

Post this optimistic view by the Turkish President, Turkey’s Minister of Education, Mahmut Özer, announced that the education space would be the first step to integrating metaverse.

Özer further highlighted that various fields that require a hands-on technical training process were chosen as the pilot programs to initiate metaverse training. While the essential experiences are being developed, the teacher should be simultaneously educated on the virtual world. Following the success of these metaverse programs, other fields in education would be considered for the implications.

According to him, they strive for 1 million apprentices by the end of the year. Many organizations do not have a proper trainer. And that all the related personnel is trying to get their training. And hopefully, by this project, the number of master apprentices will exceed 400 by the month of May.

The annual budget allotted to these programs is 282 million lire which is around $19 million.

Ironically after Minister Özer’s announcement, Tweets started to trend in Turkey that highlighted the public is not t\so metaverse friendly there. The top Tweet said #NOMetaverseinEducation (#EğitimdeMetaverseHAYIR). Some of them raised concerns regarding exposing children to radiation, while some were afraid of the unfamiliar and the uncontrollable.
