Current demand from tech innovation is to make new mining infrastructure energy-efficient and faster, that Intel like companies are catering

A new bitcoin mining chip was announced on Monday. Semiconductor manufacturing giant announced to launch Blockscale, which would have top-notch industry-level specifications. It would be an ASIC, an application-specific integrated circuit whose hardware is designed to operate on blockchains with a proof of work mechanism that uses SHA-256 encryption.

As Intel told about Blockscale, its hash rate could go up to 580 gigahash per second, that is 0.58 terahash per second, power consumption of the chip would be between 4.8 and 22.7 watts, and it would be energy efficient up to 26 joules per terahash (J/Th). These chips can act as a single unit after combining them, increasing the total per chain output to a maximum of 256 integrated circuits.

In comparison to Block scale, one of the leading machines for bitcoin mining in the market, Bitmain’s Antminer S19 Pro has a hash rate of about 110 TH/s, which consumes power of approx 3250 watts, and is energy-efficient upto 30 J/TH. If we assume a mining unit consisting of 256 Intel-made blockscale chips, that would have generated a total hash rate of approximately 148.5 TH/s, and its energy consumption would be between 1,228 to 5,811 watts of power, approximately in the same amount of energy efficiency.

According to Intel, the shipping of Blockchain will start during the third quarter of this year. The companies that would serve as the first ones for the Block scale would include Argo blockchain, Hive blockchain, Block, and GRIID Infrastructure, which would develop new systems to deploy the ASIC. Such companies like Intel, which are already a prominent name in the industry, grow the trust and accelerate the reliability towards the evolving blockchain tech and cryptocurrency space.

General Manager of Blockchain and business solution in accelerated computing systems and graphics group of Intel, Jose Rios, stated about the development that it’s a proud moment for them to collaborate and partner with the companies and provide them solutions that are upto creating cryptocurrency ecosystem globally that would be more sustainable than now. The Blockscale ASIC of Intel will play a crucial role that would help bitcoin mining companies in achieving their objectives regarding sustainability and scaling of hash rate in upcoming years.
