Crypto assets have been seen as a potential medium that could bring the actual change on a ground level due to their nature and a lot of such features

The ”biggest Bitcoin event — Bitcoin 2022”, a conference held in Miami, has numerous hot topics, issues, and subjects across different sectors. One such issue was raised in the discussion, and probably the most important one that was presented by the panel and was about global financial inclusion.

For those who think of bitcoin as something having just monetary value, the discussion could provide them with another strong perception and reason to think of digital assets in that manner. The discussion revolves around considering digital assets as the only technology that could be a tool for freedom, autonomy, peace and decolonization, etc.

The Chief Strategy Officer hosted the discussion at Human Rights Foundation, Alex Gladstein. Other panelists also joined it, North Korean deserter, human rights activist and board member at HRF Yeonmi Park, Togolese human rights defender Farida Nabourema and anti-corruption advocate of Palestine, Fadi Elsalameen.

The panel cleverly discussed such impacts Bitcoin would put on refugees, protestors and oppressed individuals living under military regimes and authoritarian rules. The voices of panelists from North Korea, Togo and Palestine made it obvious why the flagship cryptocurrency, bitcoin, is something much more than just an investment. Their Intro discussion considered it an empowerment tool in such a world where more than 87% of the population does not have rights of property, free speech, stable reserve currencies, and a functioning legal system.

The Intro stated that bitcoin runs on such a network which means no discrimination. A few countries under some tough regimes have discovered already that the network is the only survival tool left when government crackdowns happen.

Further, the discussion threw light and gave a glimpse of using fiat money around the world to maintain some evil governments in power that make them play with the lives of people who don’t have access to resources.

The words during the discussion spread that money today is power; it wins the war. Governments use fiat currencies to control, exploit and sustain such schemes where only a few thrive in profit-making while the majority die out of starving. Such victims are forcefully put down for labor, and no bigger headlines cover them. Most people are not fortunate enough to have fiat currency like the dollar as their national currency that would provide them with an economic privilege.

Reminding that bitcoin is not just about the wealth; it’s more than that, North Korean activist Yeonmi Park said that a world with no financial inclusion is like an ongoing tragedy. Without freedom, why would anyone even need money?
